Nebraska State Car Insurance Legal Requirements
Financial responsibility proof is a must for every citizen living in the State of Nebraska. They are applicable to all the vehicles that are stated below:
- All trailers (pulling unit insurance)
- Boats
- Snow mobiles
- Dealer cars
- 30 day plated cars
- Campers on the trucks (proof has to be enclosed for the camper)
The financial responsibility proof has to be submitted to the concerned officer at the county office during the vehicle registration.
Documents which can be enclosed as proof of financial responsibility:
You will have to carry out the insurance certificate in original form which is issued by an authorized insurance company. The insurance that you would be submitting should contain the following details:
- Name of the insurance provider
- Names of the person who are insured
- Insurance policy number
- Year and make of the car
- Identification of the car (ex: Ford “Mustang”)
- Liability coverage details – expiry and the policy details
You can also submit a document called “Binder” as long as it reflects the complete details and meets all the requirements as stated in the certificate of insurance except for the policy number. You are required to obtain a written letter from the insurance carrier or an authorized agent stating that your new car is being protected under the old policy (usually for 30 days) at the time of registration and where you have exchanged your old car to a new one.
Apart from the liability coverage, you are also required to provide a bond for an amount of $25,000 towards bodily injuries or a death of a person, $50,000 towards injuries and death of two persons and $10,000 towards the damage occurred to the property due to an accident that involved you. A property deal should also be produced with two individual witnesses who belong to the state of Nebraska and who own real estates. These bonds are only valid if they are accepted by the department of motor vehicle.
You will also have to obtain a certificate from the state’s treasurer after you have deposited $75,000 in cash or produced the same in security. This certificate is only valid if the department of motor vehicles accepts the certificate.
In case you own multiple vehicles, you need to insure for all the vehicles and the same must be reflected on the insurance card. If by any means, there is no specific description about the vehicles or the cars in the insurance card, a letter from the insurance company or an authorized agent stating that the insurance has been covered for all the vehicles will be acceptable.
The liability policy is the key coverage for your vehicle as well as the insurer in case of an accident. If the accident involved the violation by the opponent driver who does not possess sufficient funds to cover the damages caused, will be heavily fined and also the damages will be incurred by the insurance department.
